ELBOW PAIN

The elbow is a simple joint involving the humerus, radius and ulna.  However, all of the muscles of the arm and forearm that control the hand and wrist are involved in the elbow joint so the most common issues of the elbow are generally tendonitis type issues.  Peripheral neuropathy from compression of the radial or ulnar nerve in the shoulder area is another possible cause of elbow pain.  Similar to peripheral neuropathy is neuropathy from the cervical or thoracic spine caused by disc problems or other myelopathy.  Again the most common cause of elbow pain is a local tendonitis which is typically caused by repetitive strain injuries where the muscles attach to the bones around the elbow joint.

Common elbow conditions are:

  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow
  • Pronator Teres Syndrome
  • Osteochondritis Dessicans
  • Triceps Tendonitis
  • Arthritis

TREATMENT FOR ELBOW PAIN

Treatment for elbow pain should always involve chiropractic adjustment, trigger point therapy for tight and overused muscles, stretching, strengthening and modified activities of daily living.  Because elbow complaints are most often related to repetitive strain it is important to evaluate the activity that is causing the tendonitis and come up with alternative ergonomics for those activities.
