TYPES OF WORKPLACE INJURIES

MANUAL LABOR INJURIES

Most common injuries in manual labor usually involve lifting, carrying heavy objects, digging trenches, pushing and pulling suddenly or operating heavy machinery. These work activities can injure any part of the body but most commonly affect the the low back which is vulnerable to disc problems, the shoulders and neck, or the wrists and hands from repetitive movements.

DRIVERS

Drivers are exposed to the repetitive forces of rough roads and large trucks which wear the body down over time. This combined with the inactivity of sitting all day creates a substantial opportunity for injury. Often poor ergonomics involving the seat of the vehicle, the steering wheel and the steps getting in or out of the vehicle are not supportive enough to prevent injury as well. Part of the job may also require lifting, loading, unloading or manipulating the configuration of the vehicle which may leave opportunity for injury.

OFFICE INJURIES

Injuries in the workplace are just as common in the office as they are in the field but come in a much different form. Usually poor ergonomics and unconscious posture habits result in repetitive strain type injuries like carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, chronic neck and shoulder pain, neuropathy, thoracic outlet syndrome etc. Of course lifting, falling and twisting injuries are can occur as well.
